THE 2020 TAX SEASON

If you’re preparing your 2019 income tax return, here are some important dates you should enter into your calendar.

JANUARY DUE DATES

Unfortunately, January 2020 has come and gone, but if you want to make sure you’re on track in terms of your estimated tax payments, here are a few dates to note:

January 10th: Monthly deadline for reporting any tips (Form 4040) to your employer.

January 15th: Deadline for quarterly estimated tax payment (Form 1040-ES) for the fourth quarter of 2019.

January 15th: Deadline for estimated tax payments for Farmers and Fishermen (Form 1040-ES) for 2019.

January 31st: Deadline for 2019 tax return (Form 1040) to avoid a penalty for missed 4th quarter January 15th installment.

FEBRUARY DUE DATES

February 10th: Monthly deadline for reporting any tips (Form 4040) to your employer.

February 15th: Deadline for filing W-4 for withholding exemption for tax year 2020.

MARCH DUE DATES

March 2nd: Deadline for Farmers and Fishermen 2019 tax return to avoid penalties if the January 15th deadline is missed.

March 10th: Monthly deadline for reporting any tips (Form 4040) to your employer.

APRIL DUE DATES

April 1st: Deadline for the first annual Required Minimum Distribution (RMD) from your traditional IRA for those who turned 70 ½ in 2019.

April 10th: Monthly deadline for reporting any tips (Form 4040) to your employer.

April 15th: Deadline for filing 2019 tax return (1040) and paying all due taxes.

April 15th: Deadline for filing Form 4868 for a six-month filing extension (excepting payment of tax).

April 15th: Deadline for filing Schedule H (1040) for paying household employee taxes.

April 15th: Deadline for paying estimated taxes (Form 1040-ES) for the first quarter of 2020.

April 15th: Deadline for making IRA contributions for 2019.

April 15th: Deadline for withdrawing excess 2019 IRA contributions to avoid a penalty if no extension of Form 1040 was filed.

April 15th: Deadline for 2019 Health Savings Account (HAS) contribution.

April 15th: Deadline for self-employed solo 401(k) or Simplified Employee Pension (SEP) for 2019 if no extension of Form 1040 was filed.

MAY DUE DATES

May 11th: Monthly deadline for reporting any tips (Form 4040) to your employer.

JUNE DUE DATES

June 10th: Monthly deadline for reporting any tips (Form 4040) to your employer.

June 15th: Deadline for paying estimated taxes for the second quarter of 2020.

June 15th: Deadline for filing 2019 tax return for U.S. taxpayers working abroad (Form 1040).

June 15th: Deadline for filing 2019 tax returns for U.S. military personnel (Form 1040).

June 15th: Deadline for filing a four-month income tax return extension (Form 4868) for U.S. military personnel (excepting payment of taxes due).

JULY DUE DATES

July 10th: Monthly deadline for reporting any tips to your employer (Form 4070).

AUGUST DUE DATES

August 10th: Monthly deadline for reporting any tips to your employer (Form 4070).

SEPTEMBER DUE DATES

September 10th: Monthly deadline for reporting any tips to your employer (Form 4070).

September 15th: Deadline for paying estimated taxes for the third quarter of 2020 (Form 1040-ES).

OCTOBER DUE DATES

October 13th: Monthly deadline for reporting any tips to your employer (Form 4070).

October 15th: Deadline for filing a 2019 tax return extension and make payment of taxes due.

October 15th: Deadline for withdrawing excess IRA contributions if Form 1040 extension was filed.

October 15th: Deadline for solo 401(k) or Simplified Employee Pension (SEP) contribution if Form 1040 extension was filed.

NOVEMBER DUE DATES

November 10th: Monthly deadline for reporting any tips to your employer (Form 4070).

DECEMBER DUE DATES

December 10th: Monthly deadline for reporting any tips to your employer (Form 4070).

December 31st: Deadline for contribution to Employer-Sponsored Retirement Plan (401(k), 403(b), 457, or Federal Thrift Savings plans) for 2020.

December 31st: Deadline for taking a Required Minimum Distribution for 2020 for individuals aged 71 ½ and older.
